Be Honest With Yourself

How Many Times Have You Thought
About Working With Dogs For a Living
— and Done Nothing About It?

You've thought about it. Maybe more than once. You love dogs. You're good with animals. You know you'd be great at this — if someone just showed you the right way.

But you waited. Because you weren't sure where to start. Because the schools felt expensive and disconnected from reality. Because you didn't know if you'd be any good. Because life got in the way.

This program exists for exactly that person. The one who knows they want this — and just needs someone to show them how, for real.

Is This For You?

This Program Was Built
For One Kind of Person.

Someone who takes this seriously. Who wants to learn it right the first time — not spend years unlearning bad habits from a classroom that never touched a real dog.

🌱

Starting From Scratch

No experience needed — just a genuine love for animals and the drive to build something real. We take you from zero to client-ready with hands-on work every single day.

✂️

Already Grooming, Want to Level Up

You know the basics but you know something is missing. You want the techniques that produce the results you see on our Instagram — and the honest feedback to get you there.

🚐

Ready to Go Mobile or Start a Business

You want to understand the full picture — not just the groom, but the operation, the client experience, and the standard that makes a mobile business worth trusting.

The Honest Comparison

Why Us vs. a School
or a Big Chain

Here is the honest difference. No sales pitch — just the truth.

Barks in the Bay Mentorship Program
Schools &
Big Chains
PetSmart, Grooming Schools, etc.
Where you train

Real mobile van with real Bay Area clients from day one. No classrooms, no mannequins, no practice dogs.

Classroom or salon floor on practice dogs. Rarely mirrors a real client appointment.

Breeds you learn

Goldendoodles, Poodles, Golden Retrievers, Cavapoos, Yorkies, Maltipoos — the breeds Bay Area owners actually book.

Generic breed exposure. Limited time per breed. You often leave not confident on real-world coats.

Double coat care

Full double coat protocol — what to do, what to never do, and why. Practiced on real dogs.

Basic theory. Shaving double coats is common at big chains because it's faster.

Attention you get

1 student per month. Every session is fully focused on you — your technique, your feedback, your pace.

Large class sizes. Instructors split attention. You progress at the class pace, not yours.

Knowledge currency

We attend major grooming webinars and conferences from top professionals. Our curriculum updates constantly.

Static curriculum. What you learn may reflect techniques from years ago.

Mobile grooming

Full mobile grooming experience — van operations, client interaction, appointment flow. Ready to go mobile.

Not taught. Schools and chains don't operate mobile vans. You figure it out on your own.

Training materials

Full materials provided and yours to keep — breed notes, SOPs, reference guides, and checklists.

Standardized handouts. Generic, not personalized to what you actually worked on.

The standard

We don't teach you to be average. We teach you to succeed — to deliver a 10, every time.

Pass the assessment and move on. Volume over quality. You're a throughput, not a craft.

Why This Is Different

Schools Teach You to Groom.
We Teach You to Deliver a 10.

The grooming industry is flooded with programs that teach technique in a vacuum. We teach it in the real world — on real dogs, with real clients watching, in a real premium territory.

🐶

Real Clients From Day 1

No mannequins. No practice dogs. You work with real clients from our active book of 1,500+ Bay Area dog owners. The pressure is real, the feedback is instant, and the skill you build is permanent.

Schools use practice dogs. We use real appointments.
🏆

Competition-Level Standards

We prepare coats the same way dogs are prepared for grooming competitions — and we hold every training appointment to that standard. You will learn what a 10 looks like by producing one.

Not "good enough." Always aiming for a 10.
💧

Our Proprietary Systems

Our 3-Stage Deshedding System, triple-filtered water process, and competition coat prep techniques are not taught in any school — because we developed them. You learn the full system, not the industry basics.

Proprietary methods you won't find anywhere else.
📚

Knowledge That's Always Current

We attend major grooming webinars and conferences from the industry's top professionals — frequently. What we teach reflects what's working now, not what was taught 10 years ago. You learn from groomers who are still actively learning themselves.

Ongoing education keeps your training relevant.
📍

Premium Bay Area Territory

You train in Atherton, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and the Bay Area's highest-income markets. These clients have high expectations and pay for quality. Learning here prepares you for anywhere.

The hardest market to impress. The best place to train.
The Curriculum

What You Walk Away With

Every skill below is taught hands-on — not from a textbook, not from a YouTube video. From inside a real working grooming van.

01

Popular Haircuts Bay Area Owners Love

Goldendoodles, Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers, Golden Retrievers, Cavapoos, Maltipoos, Bernedoodles — the breeds and styles Bay Area clients actually book. Correct structure, correct finish, every time.

02

Coat Preparation

How to prepare a coat before picking up a scissor — the step almost universally skipped in the industry and the biggest reason most haircuts fall short.

03

3-Stage Deshedding System

Our proprietary deshedding process that actually removes the undercoat. You learn the full system and understand why each stage matters.

04

Professional Bath Protocol

Product selection, water temperature, triple-filtered system, skin pH awareness, and the bathing sequence that produces a coat you can feel from the first second you touch it.

05

Proper Animal Handling

How to calm an anxious dog, read stress signals, pace the groom, and earn an animal's trust from the moment you start. The skill that separates groomers clients trust from ones they tolerate.

06

Quality Self-Assessment

How to evaluate your own work against a 10 — and identify specifically what to fix. The skill that separates groomers who improve from ones who plateau.

07

Business Fundamentals — The Bonfire Only

Pricing, booking structure, client acquisition, and the operational model behind a profitable mobile grooming business — from people who actually built one.

The Difference Is Visible

What a 10 Looks Like.
Side by Side.

This is what we're training you to produce. Every dog below left our van looking like the photos on the right — and that standard is what we hold every student to.

Consistency Is Everything

Every Dog. Every Time.
The Same Standard.

Anyone can have a good day. We produce results like this across every appointment, every breed, every client. This is what you'll be trained to deliver.

The Real Difference

You Don't Learn Grooming
By Watching It.

Every grooming school will tell you they offer hands-on training. Most of it happens on practice dogs in a classroom setting — environments that bear no resemblance to a real appointment with a real client standing at their front door.

We train inside our actual van, on actual clients, in the Bay Area's most demanding markets. The feedback is real and immediate. The pressure is real. The skill you build is real.

Your Mentor

Trained by Someone Who
Actually Does This.

This isn't a retired groomer teaching from memory or a business owner who hired instructors. Your mentor is the active lead groomer of Barks in the Bay — the person behind every 5-star review, every before-and-after on our Instagram, every groom our clients use as a reference for what they want their own dog to look like.

We started this business because we were dog owners who couldn't find anyone good enough for our own dogs. The standard we built — and the standard we teach — comes from that.

  • Co-founder and lead groomer of Barks in the Bay since launch
  • 1,500+ active clients across South Bay and East Bay
  • Developer of the proprietary 3-Stage Deshedding System
  • Competition-level coat preparation on every appointment
  • Specializes in Doodles, Poodles, Goldens, and double-coated breeds

Your Journey

Where You'll Be
After This Program.

This is what the progression actually looks like — not a timeline we invented, but what we've seen happen when the right person commits to the right program.

Session 1–2

Foundations Click

You understand the bath protocol, coat prep sequence, and why most groomers skip the steps that matter most. The difference is already obvious.

Session 3–5

Scissor Confidence

Breed-specific cuts start coming together. You're completing real grooms under supervision. The feedback loop accelerates your improvement faster than any classroom could.

Session 6+

Client-Ready Skill

You're producing grooms that real clients react to. You know what a 10 looks like — and how to get there. You leave with a skill set that is genuinely employable or entrepreneurial.

FAQ

Your Questions, Answered.

Do I need any experience to apply?
+
No prior experience is required for Tier 1 or Tier 2. What we look for is a genuine love for animals, a serious attitude toward learning, and the discipline to show up and do the work. We only accept 1 student per cohort specifically so we can give every student the attention that produces real results.
Why only 1 spot per month?
+
Because quality mentorship cannot be scaled without being diluted. One student per month means every session has our full attention, every groom gets real feedback, and every student progresses at the pace that actually produces competence — not just completion. We could take more students and make more money. We chose not to.
How is this different from a grooming school?
+
Grooming schools train in classrooms on practice dogs. We train in an active mobile van on real paying clients in premium Bay Area territory. You learn under real pressure with real consequences and real feedback from the first day. West Coast Grooming Academy — one of California's few accredited schools — charges $4,000+ for classroom-based training. We offer a real-world alternative at a fraction of that cost — contact us for pricing.
What breeds will I work with?
+
Our client base is primarily Goldendoodles, Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers, Golden Retrievers, Cavapoos, Maltipoos, Bernedoodles, and Labradoodles — Bay Area's most common premium breeds. You'll develop deep familiarity with these coat types and their correct breed standards.
What is the payment and cancellation policy?
+
A deposit is required to reserve your spot — no deposit, no reservation. The balance is due before your first session begins. Cancellations within 72 hours of a scheduled session forfeit that session's value. We take these policies seriously because our time, our van, and our client relationships are on the line every session.
Can this lead to working with Barks in the Bay?
+
It can. We train internally and we hire from within our trained graduates when the right opportunity exists. Completing this program does not guarantee employment, but it does put you in the best possible position to be considered — and to be ready if the opportunity comes.

Every Cohort Fills. Don't Wait.

One spot. That's all we're taking this month. We keep it this way on purpose — because real mentorship cannot be scaled. If you're reading this, the spot is still open. It may not be tomorrow.

Learn It Right.
The First Time.

Most people who want to groom professionally spend months watching videos and doing practice grooms that don't translate. Our students spend that time on real appointments, building real skill, with real feedback. The difference shows.
